WALNUT CREEK, CA — Fans of schnitzel, spaetzle and other German-inspired cuisine have a new restaurant to check out with the recent opening of Bierhaus in Walnut Creek.
The eatery and beer hall, operated by Mike Finley, who runs Bierhaus in Oakland, launched this month at 1360 Locust St.
Finley's original Bierhaus opened in Mountain View in 2013, and then relocated to the Temescal district of Oakland in 2018, and has now opened its newest East Bay locale in the heart of downtown Walnut Creek, serving up German dishes and traditional beers and ciders.

"The graciousness and acceptance the Walnut Creek community has extended to Bierhaus, even before we opened our doors, has been astounding,” Finley said. “Now that we are open, we are excited and eager to show the local community that Bierhaus is a gathering place where anyone and everyone can convene and enjoy the simple pleasures of food and drink with friends and family.”
The 4,900-square-foot restaurant can seat 250 diners, with an "industrial-chic" dining area, that includes communal tables, featuring wood tones and leather accents, concrete floors, tables created from reclaimed Mendocino County redwoods and vintage beer steins collected from local flea markets, according to managers.

On the menu, from Chef Marc Rasic, are such traditional, German-inspired dishes as flammkuchen, schnitzel, salads and smoked meat entrées, plus Käsepäetzle Gratin, warm, salted pretzels with German mustard, a schnitzel sandwich served with chicken or pork, chipotle aioli, red onion, avocado and feta and a mustard-glazed smoked pork shoulder with Käsepäetzle gratin.
At the bar, patrons can select from beers, ciders and wines on tap, with options created by the Bierhaus team that specializes in German, Belgian, Icelandic and American offerings.
A hallmark of Bierhaus is its dog-friendly outdoor patios — including in Walnut Creek—water bowls and dog treats, along with a selection of such family-friendly games as Jenga and Connect Four.
Bierhaus Walnut Creek is open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. with lunch served from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Happy Hour is offered daily from 3 to 5:30 p.m. and 9:30 to 11 p.m. For reservations and additional information, visit http://bierha.us/ or call 925-278-1364 or email, bier@bierha.us.
