Happy Mother’s Day To Anita Vega
"We didn't have a white picket fence around a big home, but it's okay because I had something better than that. I had a mom who loved me."

In celebration of Mother's Day on Sunday May 13, we asked Patch readers to write a letter to their mother and let us deliver it. This is Delilah Vega's letter to her mom:
Dearest Mom,
I’m writing you this letter to let you and the rest of the world know that I am blessed to have you for a mom. There is so much I want to write but I can’t because then this would be a book, so therefore I will sum it all up the best I can.
Growing up from as young as I can remember, maybe 5 or 6 years old, I know that you had a really hard life — not too bad but hard enough, and through that time all I can really remember about you was that you were always so loving and patient with your kids. No matter what, you loved me unconditionally.
Unfortunately because my dad made bad choices, you always had to be a single parent. I tried to be a good girl and not get into trouble, but because I had so much trust in others I got myself into some crazy situations. When I was young I went through a very scary time, but because of everything I learned from watching you as a person, I was able to be strong.
I know that when life gets really tough that all I have to do is pray about it and hear your loving and encouraging words and everything will turn out okay. I couldn’t feel defeated or give up because you showed me what a strong loving woman you are and how this is the only way to be.
I didn't have a wonderful childhood in the sense of having my parents at my school plays or being part of a sports team, and we didn’t have a white picket fence around a big home with my own room, but it’s okay because I had something better than that.
I had a mom who loved me so much that she worked at a beauty salon Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Even when you got home walking from the bus stop so tired, you still made us dinner, and then you would tell me you loved me and kiss me goodnight.
I remember you always struggling to give us a home with a bed to sleep on and a refrigerator full enough to feed us every day of the week. You always made sure I had the things I needed, but most of all you made me feel loved and cared for, and this to me was better than having all the material things that kids could wish for.
Thank you, Mom, for everything. I hope that I make you even a little bit as proud of me as I am proud of you. Thanks for always being there for me and your grandchildren. You never let us down!
Love,
Delilah
