Porsche Driver Killed In Walnut Creek Crash

The crash prompted a sig-alert with 3 lanes of I-680 initially closed.

WALNUT CREEK, CA — One man was killed in a crash in Walnut Creek Monday, according to the CHP. The victim, a 63-year-old man from San Ramon who was driving a vintage Porsche, was pronounced dead shortly after the crash. His name has not been released.

The two vehicle wreck happened around noon on I-680, just north of the North Main Street off ramp. The Porsche and a Jeep SUV collided. Two people in the Jeep suffered minor injuries but were not transported to a hospital.

The Porsche driver was unconscious when the CHP arrived. He was pronounced dead at John Muir Hospital a short time later.

Three northbound lanes of the freeway were initially blocked, prompting a sig-alert, but the road is now completely open.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, although the CHP reports that drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor. The two vehicles involved were a 1974 black Porsche and a black Jeep.
