Rain, Wind In East Bay | Snow On Diablo Range: NWS

The storm heading our way is cold and packs a wallop, the National Weather Service warns. It arrives today.

EAST BAY — Just in time for Thanksgiving, the National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for the East Bay Hills and Diablo Range, starting at 4 p.m. Tuesday, and is warning that snow may fall on the Diablo Range from Tuesday night through Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, the entire area is expected to pick up between a half inch and 1.5 inches of rain as a powerful storm ends our dry spell that's settled over northern California for months.

The wind arrives ahead of the storm. The weather service says to expect sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts of 45 to 50 mph. Mountain peaks can expect 60 mph gusts.

For today, the heaviest rainfall is expected between 5 and 10 p.m., making the evening commute messy.

The rain will continue through Wednesday and into Thursday.

While a Snow Advisory has not been issued for the East Bay, we should see snow accumulate on the Diablo Range. Further south, the mountains above Big Sur should receive about a half foot of snow.
