Ruth Bancroft Died Sunday At Age 109
She died in Walnut Creek where her namesake garden has inspired generations of visitors.

WALNUT CREEK, CA — The City of Walnut Creek is saddened to share that Ruth Bancroft, founder of the world-renowned The Ruth Bancroft Garden, passed away Sunday, Nov. 26th, at her home in Walnut Creek, California, at the age of 109.
Mrs. Bancroft gained international recognition for her pioneering work in horticulture, demonstrating that a dry garden could be lush, diverse, and striking in design.
Ruth was deeply admired by those who worked with her, and she will be remembered fondly by her community.
