WALNUT CREEK, CA — A hazardous materials situation has been resolved on Interstate Highway 680 in Walnut Creek. It resulted in two lanes of the freeway being closed for more than three hours. No injuries were reported.

Around 9 a.m. Thursday, two vehicles crashed near the Main Street offramp. One of the vehicles was a van carrying containers of corrosive materials. Initially, the CHP and Confire believed that some of the containers opened, but all of the material remained in the van. After suiting up and removing the containers, firefighters report that nothing actually spilled.

With the hazmat threat over, the vehicles were towed away and the freeway reopened.
