Ten Walnut Creek Women Unhurt as Limo Burst Into Flames

Ten women escaped a burning limousine unharmed Sunday before it burst into flames.

Quick thinking and memories of a recent tragedy helped save the lives of ten women in Rossmoor Sunday morning, as the limousine they were sitting in caught fire and was ultimately destroyed.

According to KGO 7, eight of the women were over 90, some in walkers and wheelchairs. They were going to a birthday party at 11:30 a.m., and were waiting in the limo, parked on Skycrest Dr., as it idled. The driver saw smoke and told the passengers to get out.

Two caretakers helped the women out of the car before the fire could do anyone any harm. When everyone was helped to safety, the 2008 Lincoln Towncar burst into flames and was destroyed.

The cause of the fire was apparently an electrical problem, the limo owner said.

The incident brought back grim memories of the limousine fire last month that killed five passengers on the San Mateo Bridge. Everyone in yesterday's event said they remembered that incident well.
