WALNUT CREEK, CA — Driven by a mission, CrossWinds Church this week celebrated the grand opening of Goodness Village of Livermore, a tiny house community dedicated to helping members of the Alameda County homeless population.

The idea for Goodness Village came when CrossWinds Pastor Chris Coli took a trip to Austin last year, according to a news release. While in The Lone Star State, Coli visited Austin Community First Village.

When he returned to California, Coli set to work developing the community, a collaborative effort through Goodness Village, a nonprofit organization for unhoused locals in the Tri-Valley.

The community opened on Friday. Composed of 28 tiny homes, the village also offers its residents onsite vocational training, mental health support and help with substance use.

Each of the tiny homes comes complete with a kitchen, bathroom and bed, according to the release.

The community was developed with support from Walnut Creek-based HomeAid Northern California, Builder Captain Trumark Homes, Teichert Construction, FIRM Foundation Community Housing, Wood Rogers, Gates + Associates, KTGY, Tennyson Electric, Coastal Lumber and McCall Landscaping.

The effort was also led by Scott Haggerty, former Alameda County Supervisor, who attended the village's grand opening on Friday.

“Goodness Village is truly a labor of love showcasing how the private sector, local government and non-profit organizations can partner together to meet the immediate needs of our local community in a big way,” Coli said.
