Walnut Creek Needs Volunteers This Weekend
An effort to end hunger in Walnut Creek is underway and the first group of helpers is needed this weekend.

WALNUT CREEK, CA — There are Walnut Creek families that are still struggling to put food on the table more than a year after the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
In an effort to improve their lives, the Walnut Creek Community Food Drive will be held on Saturday, April 17.
Dubbed "One Big Project to Fill One Big Need," volunteers are needed beginning this weekend to help spread the word about the food drive.

"Individuals, families and small groups are needed across the community to distribute fliers announcing the spring Community Food Drive," an online appeal reads. "The information can be distributed any time between April 10 and April 17." Sign up for the outreach.
A week from Saturday is the big day! Dozens, perhaps hundreds of volunteers are needed to help at a pop-up food collection station at a local grocery store or to sort donations at Heather Farm. Three different shifts are available.

If you are unable to donate your time or food, online monetary donations are also being collected. Organizers are two-thirds of the way to their goal of $30,000. A huge shout to Camille de Campos for her generosity. She donated her recent stimulus check, $1,400, writing, "The government keeps sending me money that I would enjoy but do not need. Someone else needs it a lot more than I do."
If you would like to contribute, the donation page is here.

Patch has partnered with Feeding America to help raise awareness on behalf of the millions of Americans facing hunger. Feeding America, which supports 200 food banks across the country, estimates that in 2021, about 42 million Americans may not have enough nutritious food to eat due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. This is a Patch social good project; Feeding America receives 100 percent of donations. Find out how you can donate in your community or find a food pantry near you.
