With one more week to go, Walnut Creek’s first Camp Galileo summer day camp was a great start, according to camp director Jeffrey Weisser. A recent visitor also found it pretty noisy, but then you expect that with a camp full of preK-5th graders.
The camp, which uses a local elementary school campus, encourages kids to be creative, and to not be afraid of making mistakes, Weisser said. It’s through mistakes that people learn, he added.
The camp, which runs through Aug. 9, has a special theme each week. Last week it was African Safari. Each grade level was separated and identified by different colored t-shirts, and team spirit was encouraged.

“Today we made monkeys, and I like my monkey because it has my favorite color pink on it,” said Amber, one of the younger campers. A rousing endorsement at any age.
