White Fence Farm Liquidation Auction Winds Down

"Animatronic talking chickens" go for $4,800 in online bidding war as decor and restaurant supplies are snapped up.

LAKEWOOD, CO – The complete liquidation of the beloved White Fence Farm restaurant and grounds was conducted via an online auction ending on Friday.

Like a rapid-fire eBay on steroids, beloved and mundane pieces of the restaurant and its 40-year's worth of accumulation were snapped up in online bidding wars, hosted by local auctioneers Dickensheet & Associates, Inc.

Although some unkind reviewers in the past had called the restaurant a "carnival of schlock," it was just the nostalgic pull of the family-style seating, petting zoo, gift shop and countrified atmosphere that caused online bidders to rush to get their piece of White Fence Farm memorabilia.

As the auction wore on, digital bidding wars ensued, including scores of bidders who drove up the price for "five animatronic talking chickens on hay bales" to $4,800. A mounted talking buffalo head (bring a ladder) had 57 bidders and was up to $680 by Friday afternoon.

"There's some sentimental stuff here for sure," said Skip Ritter, a Dickensheet manager and auctioneer.

Less exciting restaurant supplies included blenders, seating, sinks and smokers. Even plastic condiments bottles were on the online auction block.

Looky-loos were encouraged to come by in person Thursday and Friday mornings to gaze at the merchandise divided into about 1,200 lots.

The restaurant closed after 40 years after owners decided the staff costs were too high.
