Big E Officially Called Off For 2020
The Big E has been called off for 2020 because of safety concerns related to the coronavirus.
WEST SAPRINGFIELD, MA — The Big E has been called off for 2020 because of safety concerns related to the coronavirus. The announcement was made Monday.
"For the safety of our fairgoers, staff, vendors, entertainers, exhibitors, sponsors, volunteers and the broader community, the 2020 Big E has been cancelled," said a message draped atop the Big E website.
The 2021 Big E is slated for Sept. 17 to Oct. 3.

The Eastern State Exposition, as it is formally known, has set attendance records for three straight years. It's 2019 total was 1,629,527 visitors over 17 days.
The Big E set a new single-day mark on a Saturday — Sept. 21 — when 176,544 people made their way through the gates.

In a video posted on the Big E Facebook page, Eastern States Exposition President Gene Cassidy said, "Please know that this decision was not made lightly. In fact, it was one of the most difficult decisions that we as an organization have had to make in modern times."
