Though the weekly number of cases has trended slightly upward, the state's positive test rate remains low and its 7-day hospitalization average is at its lowest point since the early days of the pandemic.

“Some of the increase in cases is the result of a significant increase in testing that has ramped up over the last several weeks as well," said state COO Josh Geballe.

Colleges and universities have been doing mass testing of all returning residential students.

The new numbers were released as some school districts across the state this week are reopening in-person, while more plan to do so after Labor Day and beyond. Many schools districts are using a hybrid model of in-person and distance learning. New Haven schools are beginning the first 10 weeks all online.
