CT Coronavirus Hospitalizations and Infections Climb Overnight
The number of COVID-19 hospitalizations in CT climbed above 400 beds again, in the most recent data made available by the state.
CONNECTICUT — Coronavirus hospitalizations took an unusual turn upward Monday, climbing 13 beds over the past 24 hours to re-crack 400, at 401 total inpatients statewide.
Hospitalizations is one of Gov. Ned Lamont's two key metrics for determining how rapidly the state reopens, or shuts back down. Hospitalizations in Connecticut reached more than 1,250 beds in December, and it has steadily been dropping over the ensuing months.
The state is scheduled to remove all capacity restrictions on nearly all businesses, including restaurants (but not bars), on March 19. Masks and social distancing will still be required, however.

The governor's other main metric has been daily coronavirus test positivity, and that's up overnight as well. Over the weekend, the state Department of Public Health tracked it at 2.63 percent, and it has climbed to 3.56 percent overnight. That's the highest one-day rate logged since the third week in February.

The coronavirus death toll in Connecticut now stands at 7,739, with 14 more reported.
The graphs above show the number and rate of cases and deaths by race and ethnicity. Categories are mutually exclusive. The category "multiracial" includes people who answered "yes" to more than one race category. Approximately 30 percent of COVID-19 reports are missing information on the patient's race and ethnicity.
