CT Power Outages Town-By-Town: 21,000 Without Power Tuesday

Eversource: "Our people are ready and will work around the clock, if needed, to restore power as quickly and safely as possible."

CONNECTICUT — More than 21,000 homes and business are without power at 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday, in the aftermath of storms that blew into the region (late afternoon/early evening).

Eversource officials are reporting 21,440 customers without power, or about 1.67 percent of their total base. There are 91 United Illuminating homes and businesses in the dark.

"Our people are ready and will work around the clock, if needed, to restore power as quickly and safely as possible," said Eversource President of Regional Electric Operations Craig Hallstrom.

The National Weather Service expects these thunderstorms to intensify and turn more to the southeast as they approach the local area, and move through the lower Hudson Valley and interior southern Connecticut through 10:00 p.m. The strongest storms will be capable of producing damaging winds over 60 mph and torrential rainfall of over an inch, according to the NWS meteorologists.

WTNH News 8 chief meteorologist has warned on Twitter that the storm watch now includes all of the shoreline and Long Island Sound, as well as the southern shore of Connecticut. Gusts of strong, damaging winds are possible through 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Eversource has secured out-of-state line crews in anticipation of Tropical Storm Elsa's impact later this week, and local tree and line crews and support staff will be positioned across Connecticut to address any damage or power outages caused by these potential storms, according to a company spokesperson.
