CT Reports 15 Coronavirus Deaths, Biggest Single-Day In Months

Connecticut reported 15 new coronavirus deaths and hospitalizations exceeded 400 for the first time since early June.

CONNECTICUT — Connecticut’s daily coronavirus report Friday showed the state moving into familiar and uncomfortable territory with more than 1,000 new cases, hospitalizations exceeding 400 patients and 15 deaths reported.

The single-day coronavirus death toll report was the highest in months; there were 23 deaths reported over three days on July 12 and 15 was the highest single-day report since mid-June, according to data from the state Department of Public Health. The total death count is 4,671

Net hospitalizations increased by 22 patients Friday up to a total of 402. That comes after a slight increase Thursday and a small decrease Wednesday, but a large increase of over 40 patients on Tuesday. Coronavirus hospitalizations were last over the 400 mark on June 2.

Hospitalizations increased the most in New Haven County with a net gain of 12 patients up to 134. Middlesex County saw the second biggest increase with a net gain of six patients up to a total of eight.

The daily positive test rate was 3.6 percent Friday with 1,065 cases out of more than 29,500 tests. The state is on track to report a total of 2.5 million test results by early next week.
