CT's Coronavirus Travel Advisory List: 1 More State Added

Home for the holidays? Not so fast. A total of 47 states and territories are now on Connecticut's coronavirus travel advisory list.

CONNECTICUT — Just about one week from what is traditionally the busiest travel day of the year, Connecticut residents find themselves with very few places they can go.

Vermont was added to Connecticut's coronavirus travel advisory list Tuesday and no areas were dropped off. That brought the number of restricted states and territories to 47, according to the latest report from the state Department of Public Health.

Gov. Ned Lamont asked students to get tested and self-quarantine before leaving school and going home for Thanksgiving. Students were advised to avoid parties and reunions. They were also advised against quarantining with the elderly or family members who are at risk for the virus.

As coronavirus cases throughout the Northeast and the country continue to climb, nonessential travel among New York, New Jersey and Connecticut remains discouraged but not formally restricted.

On Monday, Lamont told reporters he and the governors of New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania agreed there won't be statewide lockdowns in their jurisdictions.

Connecticut is on track to break 100,000 coronavirus cases by the end of the week after the state recorded another 4,639 cases over the weekend.

States or territories are added to Connecticut's travel advisory list if they have a daily positive coronavirus test rate higher than 10 cases per 100,000 residents or a 10 percent or higher positive rate over a seven-day rolling average. Travelers who fail to complete a travel health form face a civil penalty of $1,000 for each violation.

Workers traveling from affected states to Connecticut and vice versa who work in critical infrastructure as designated by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, including students in certain health care professions, and any state, local and federal officials and employees, are exempt from the quarantine requirement, provided such travel is work-related. Those essential workers must still complete the travel health form, however.

While there currently are no Connecticut-imposed restrictions on international travel, the federal government continues to provide international travel recommendations for anyone living inside the United States. For guidance on international travel, see the "COVID-19 Travel Recommendations" published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
