Federal prosecutor Margaret Donovan asked Vatti to unseal the criminal information, which are the documents that outline the government's case for Crosby’s arrest. Vatti agreed. (See the criminal complaint and the "statement of facts" in the charging document embedded at the end of this story.)
Crosby "believed the 2020 presidential election was stolen."
According to the charging documents, on April 21, FBI agents went to Crosby's parents' home in Harwinton to interview him, and them.
Crosby told the agents he learned about the pro-Trump demonstration planned for Jan. 6 from social media. His parents told federal agents that their son "believed the 2020 presidential election was stolen."
When he returned from the Capitol, and his parents asked him what happened, he replied: “I’m not at liberty to say.”
Crosby did not deny going adding he wanted his "voice heard.” So on Jan. 5, he drove to New Haven and caught the train to D.C. and after arriving, went to the Hilton Hotel, where he met up with his girlfriend and her mother.
He proceeds to not only identify himself in photos to the FBI, but provided details of the breach of the Capitol and, his movements inside, including inside the Senate Chamber.

Crosby and his girlfriend and her mother, who are not named in the criminal complaint, first went to the Ellipse to attend the pro-Trump rally. He stayed for the entire rally while his girlfriend and her mother left and he was among the "masses" who marched down Pennsylvania Avenue towards the Capitol.
In the New Yorker below video, at the 7:55 minute mark, Crosby can be seen standing next to Jacob Chansley, AKA the "QAnon Shaman." Crosby is seen wearing a black jacket and glasses; he also wore glasses during the virtual court hearing.
According to federal prosecutors, Crosby is also seen on the following images posted to Twitter.

Crosby is free to go without bail, but with conditions
Vatti said that after reading Crosby’s financial disclosure documents, he agreed Crosby could not afford an attorney to represent him. While in Connecticut, before the case moves to the Washington D. C. federal court, he’s being represented by federal defender Daniel Erwin.
Donovan did not ask that Crosby be held in detention and she did not ask for bail.
Vatti, who said Crosby was not a flight risk or danger to the public, spent quite a bit of time during the virtual proceeding going over the conditions of the 25-year-old’s release including, save for his court appearances, he cannot be in Washington D.C., nor can he travel out of Connecticut.
He’s also prohibited from having any contact with witnesses or others charged in connection with the Capitol riot, around 400 to date.
Vatti asked Crosby if he was under a doctor’s care and he replied that he is receiving psychiatric counseling and is taking an antidepressant.
Crosby’s father, Richard T. Crosby Sr., agreed to be responsible for his son while he’s awaiting a June 8 virtual Washington D. C. court hearing. Crosby Sr., according to his LinkedIn profile, has for more than 30 years worked for the Department of Defense’s Defense Contract Audit Agency.
Crosby Jr., who told the judge he earned a bachelor's degree, must keep his job, or if he loses it find another, Vatti said.
Throughout the hearing, Crosby responded to the judge’s questions with, “Yes, sir.”
