CT Weather: 50 MPH Wind Gusts, Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Monday

A storm is forecast to have significant impacts on Connecticut Monday. Here are new details on the timing and what we can expect.

CONNECTICUT — If you're able to extend your holiday weekend for another day you should go for it. The weather forecast for Monday looks downright miserable in Connecticut as we could see up to a few inches of rain, damaging wind gusts and thunderstorms.

Wake us on Tuesday! The silver lining is that the weather doesn't look awful early Monday so the commute to work should be ok but the evening commute home looks very unsettled. Power outages are a real concern Monday afternoon and evening.

The National Weather Service has already issued a hazardous weather outlook for the state on Monday.

Northern Connecticut hazardous weather forecast details

"Strong south winds gusting up to 50 mph Monday afternoon and evening may result in isolated power outages," the weather service said.

When will we see the worst of it?

The greatest impacts are likely to occur Monday into Monday evening, according to the weather service. Rain is expected to move in Monday morning.

"The rain will become moderate to heavy Monday afternoon into early Monday evening," the weather service states.

There is a chance for thunderstorms and the state is expected to see 1.5 to 2.5 inches of rain. Minor flooding is the main threat with this rainfall.

"Strong, possibly damaging winds are still possible Monday afternoon and evening. However, forecast confidence in seeing winds exceeding high wind criteria is low at this time," the weather service said.
