CONNECTICUT — Lowe's home improvement centers Tuesday announced a new twist to its holiday delivery offerings — Christmas trees.

The Christmas tree delivery is a first for Lowe's and is an extension of Americans spending more time at home and starting the season earlier amid the coronavirus pandemic, chain officials said.

The tree delivery service is set to begin Oct. 30 and is free with orders of $45 or more, according t0 the announcement. Tree containers and fresh-cut wreaths will also be available for local delivery.

"In a year that hasn't delivered anything close to usual, Lowe's is giving new meaning to the holiday shopping season by inspiring customers to gift back to the place that has meant so much this year — home," the kickoff announcement said.

Lowe's "Season of Savings" campaign is slated to begin Thursday and continue deep into the holiday season.

The theory that more time at home leads to more home improvement projects seems sound. In its latest earning statement Lowe's declared an increase in sales at stores open for at least a year increased 35.1 percent in the last quarter.

Online sales jumped by 135 percent. according to the report.

Home decorations and things like small appliances were then added to the traditional store offerings this year, officials said.
