New Anchor Joins Connecticut TV News Station

Wendell D. Edwards is the new morning anchor at WFSB-TV.

CONNECTICUT — A new anchor is joining the WFSB-TV morning news team, the station announced on Friday.

Wendell D. Edwards, a television news veteran, will join the channel 3 team of Nicole Nalepa, Scot Haney and Caitlin Francis on Monday.

Edwards, a decorated track and field athlete in the 1980s and '90s, was most recently an anchor at ABC 3340 News in Birmingham, Alabama, and before that anchored at KOCO 5 News in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

On the track, Edwards qualified for the trials in the 110-meter hurdles for the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain.

On Thursday, Edwards introduced himself to Connecticut on the popular Chaz & AJ Show on WPLR 99.1FM, and the hosts gave married father of two daughters some pointers on what to expect from the state and his new audience.

Edwards holds a bachelors degree from Abilene Christian University in Texas, and a masters degree from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

"He's an Emmy-nominated journalist with a number of accolades to his name, including the Oklahoma Broadcasters Association award for outstanding investigative reporting in 2010 and two NABJ Salute to Excellence awards in 2008 and 2011," the station wrote in its announcement.
