Mega Making

A Stepping Stones visitor favorite!

The museum’s beloved Mega Making exhibit is back! Can we fix it? Yes we can! Every child can be a builder, engineer, artist, or dressmaker at this hands-on construction zone open until Labor Day 2018. Using real materials and real tools, young makers can explore a variety of supplies, techniques and projects to bring their creative ideas to life. Helpful staff members are always there to lend a hand, whether it’s working a needle and thread for the first time, practicing using wrenches and screwdrivers, tinkering with batteries and buzzers or picking out the perfect artist medium. There’s something for all ages!

The Mega Making exhibit experience is organized into four main areas:

StoryTime - A Day at the Circus with Clare Pernice 11:30 am – 12:30 pm

Join local author and illustrator Clare Pernice to celebrate her acclaimed book, Circus Girl. A book signing, circus related activities and other surprises. Come in a circus costume, if you like! Copies of Circus Girl will be available for purchase.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 6

Around the World: Cuentos: Tales from the Latino World 2:00 – 3:00 pm

With colorful tales from the Caribbean, South America, Spain, and the Bronx, David Gonzalez paints a vivid picture of the people and rich cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. From the enchanting Puerto Rican magician Milomaki to the friendship between young Delgadina and a magical snake, these stories are filled with memorable characters, fantastic plots, and positive messages. Spanish words spice up the stories and songs so that children can repeat and retain their sound and meaning. Free for all ages.

Storybook Pajama Party: Elephant & Piggie 4:00 – 8:00 pm

Have the kids throw on some cozy pajamas to enjoy an evening at the museum and a compelling reading of the tale in front of a large screen showing the pages in the book for all to see. After the story, the reading is brought to life when children meet the storybook character. Hands-on themed activities for children of every age take place all evening throughout the museum. Tickets are $10 per person for museum members and $15 per person for non-members. Early Bird Discount on tickets runs through Friday, January 5 and is $8 per person for museum members and $13 dollars per person for non-members. Children under the age of one will be admitted for free. Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. Registration is required. Space is limited.

Stepping Stones Museum for Children is an award-winning, private, non-profit 501 (c)(3) children’s museum committed to broadening and enriching the lives of children and families. Stepping Stones is located at 303 West Avenue, Norwalk, CT, exit 14 North and 15 South off I-95. Museum hours are: Labor Day through Memorial Day, Tuesday—Sunday and holiday Mondays from 10 am-5pm; and Memorial Day through Labor Day, Monday-Sunday from 10 am-5 pm.
