84 Drivers Cited In Berlin Distracted Driving Campaign
Police have released the results of a campaign to enforce distracted driving rules earlier this month.
BERLIN, CT — The Berlin Police Department has released the results of a recent enforcement effort on distracted driving during the first two weeks of October. The effort was in conjunction with the Connecticut Department of Transportation during the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA’s) Distracted Driving Awareness month.
Berlin officers conducted spot-checks in October that were designed to identify distracted drivers as part of the "U Drive. U Text. U Pay. Campaign." A total of 84 drivers were cited for violating the law that governs the use of mobile electronic devices.
In a statement, police said: "The goal of the campaign and enforcement effort was to educate motorists and reduce the number of motor vehicle crashes and injuries that involve distracted drivers. The Berlin Police and the Connecticut Department of Transportation urge you to put your phone down when you get behind the wheel. If you need to text, pull over and park your vehicle in a safe place first."
