A Huge Turnout From the Community For UpBeat Picnic - Photo Gallery
Despite incredible heat and new location, residents come out in droves for town wide picnic.
When construction began at Berin High School, UpBeat Director Alice Mitchell thought they might have to cancel the annual UpBeat Town wide Picnic. The event was usually held in the parking lot at the high school. Construction took over a good part of the part of the lot that the picnic used. Mitchell also worried about having the picnic next to an open construction site.Â
That is when the Berlin Lions Club came to the rescue and offered up the Berlin Fairgrounds as a host of the picnic.Â
Despite the warmest temperatures of the year thus far and the new location, residents came out in droves to attend the annual picnic. UpBeat uses the picnic as a fundraiser despite cooking free hot dogs and providing free beverages for all who attend.
The silent auction went well for UpBeat and now Mitchell will assess if the picnic will move back to the BHS parking lot or stay at the fairgrounds.Â
"I'm just so grateful to the Lions Club and the Lions Club members, many of whom were here yesterday and today helping us set up and I think it's turned out to be a great experience," Mitchell said. "We're in a space that people are familiar with and we have great space. It's been a very positive thing for us."Â
