Abercrombie and State Leaders To Host Annual Autism Awareness Day

State Representative Cathy Abercrombie (D-Meriden/Berlin), state leaders, autism advocacy groups and families from around the state will hold a press conference to launch Autism Advocacy Day at the State Capitol.

It will be Wednesday, April 3 with breakfast at 10 a.m. and the program to follow at 11 a.m.

Autism Advocacy Day is an annual event to draw attention to Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and affected individuals and families.

Autism is characterized by impaired social interaction, problems with verbal and nonverbal communication, and unusual, repetitive, or severely limited activities and interests. ASDs include Asperger syndrome, Rett syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder, and pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified (usually referred to as PDD-NOS).
