An Exciting Day For THOCC

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal and other state and local dignitaries joined Hospital of Central Connecticut and Hartford HealthCare leaders Oct. 24 to break ground on a $40 million state-of-the-art cancer center in New Britain.

The Hospital of Central Connecticut’s (HOCC’s) new cancer center will consolidate outpatient services in one convenient location and allow for future expansion of cancer care. The nearly 70,000-square-foot center will be built on over nine acres on the New Britain/Plainville line.

Noting that some of his family members have had cancer, Malloy cited the importance of providing care close to home for patients. He also emphasized the positive economic impact of the new cancer center.

“This will be a treatment center, but will also be an employment center,” he said.

Blumenthal said the new center will “give the state of Connecticut a beacon of hope and caring that will be a model for the United States of America.”

The cancer center will offer centralized care that will encompass all outpatient areas of cancer care -- treatment, detection, prevention, support and research. The Tomasso Group is building the cancer center; completion date is to be determined.
