Aresimowicz, Ted Kennedy Jr. Tour CCARC as Organization Seeks to Expand Reach
Kennedy provided the organization with the "Spirit of the ADA" award last week – and staff aren't done looking to find news ways to lend support and opportunities to the disabled.
For members of the CCARC, the job isn’t about making money or earning awards. It’s about a dedication to serving the community and providing a voice, support and opportunities for those living with disabilities.
Now the New Britain-based organization, which also serves Berlin and Southington among several other central Connecticut towns, is looking to expand its reach and despite having no desire for specific recognition, their efforts have led to the non-profit being named the 2013 “Spirit of the ADA” award recipient, an honor bestowed by the Americans with Disabilities Act Coalition.
“It’s a big honor for us, but are focus remains on the people with disabilities that we are able to serve,” said Carol Reilly, Vice President of Development.
Ted Kennedy Jr. was on hand last week to recognize the organization, thanking them for their work in helping people such as himself. Kennedy, son of notable Massachusetts senator and an attorney by trade, has lived with a disability after losing a leg to cancer at age 12.
Earlier this week, Connecticut House Majoity Leader Joe Aresimowicz, D-Berlin and Southington, toured the facility and offered his own congratulations.
“CCARC provides the support and resources that people with disabilities in central Connecticut need. Because of their dedicated staff, they serve as a welcoming place affording everyone in our community the opportunity to live full and rich lives,” Aresimowicz said.
CCARC is central Connecticut’s leading non-profit dedicated to helping people with disabilities. It was founded in 1952 and is committed to providing personalized services for a range of clients to help make their dreams happen.
