Baseball Loses in 16 innings: Girls Golf Stays Perfect

Softball team loses its first game of the season.

After rallying for two runs in the top of the seventh to send Tuesday's game at Sage Park into extra innings, the Maloney Spartans burst out with six runs in the top of the 16th inning, providing the margin of a 14-8 baseball victory over Berlin.

The loss broke the Redcoats' three-game winning streak, leaving them with a 6-4 record on the season.

Girl's Golf

Berlin 175, Wethersfield 225

The Berlin Lady Redcoats golf team extended it's undefeated season record to 6-0 with a convincing victory against Wethersfield, 175 to 225.

The match was played on the par 35 front nine at Wethersfield Country Club.

Julia Kemmling claimed medalist honors once again with a 42. Emily Deutsch, Ashley D'Attilio and Abbie Underwood were close behind with 43, 44 and 46 respectively.

"This was a strong team victory today," Coach Jim Barnes said. "All of the girls played well on a tough course.  We caught some bad luck again having to play a course where the greens had just been punched and top-dressed but the girls persevered.

"I was particularly pleased with Abbie Underwood's round. She is making a strong bid to be our regular number five player. Great teams come to matches five strong. When Abbie plays like this we have the kind of depth I love to see."

Berlin is next in action against Conard, on Wednesday, at Rockledge Golf Course.
