Behind left-hander Connor Bennett, Berlin High defeated Southington 3-2 Monday in Southington.

Bennett, a senior, held the Southington lineup – which featured several college-bound players – to seven hits and one earned run, striking out three along the way.

Dave Condon put Berlin ahead with a two-run double in the 4th inning, scoring Mitch Williams and Jordan Zima, to put the Redcoats up to stay.

Berlin’s eventual margin of victory came on a 5th inning RBI hit by Kyle Naples which plated Dante Vasi.

After yielding a Southington run in the bottom of the 5th, Bennett closed the door the rest of the way en route to a complete game win, his second of the year.

Southington’s Andrew Goralski had four hits in a losing cause, while Daren Grabowski added two hits to the Berlin attack.

Pitching has led the way for Berlin in the first three games, with Bennett and Mike Veronesi, yielding no more than one earned run in any game and racking up three complete games.

The Redcoats (2-1 on the season) play their third consecutive away game Wednesday, at Middletown, for a 3:45 game start against the Middletown High Blue Dragons.
