Berlin Entry In Farmington Bank/Vantis Life League Falls To 1-4
Berlin falls to Ultimate Auto-Cromwell 6-5 in eight innings.

After giving up a lead and coming back to tie, the Berlin Senior Team in the Farmington Bank/Vantis Life summer baseball league game dropped a 6-5 extra inning game to Ultimate Auto-Cromwell at Percival Field on Saturday.
Facing defeat in the seventh, Mike Veronesi took matters into his own hands. First he reached second on a throwing error. Then he stole third and scampered home with the tying run when the throw to third went awry.
Berlin took a 4-1 lead in the fourth, with Scott McLeod driving home two runs and Kyle Russell another. In all the Berlin offense registered 11 hits and nine stolen bases, but was unable to push the tying run across in the bottom of the eighth.
Berlin starter Greg Konowski held the visitors to one unearned run over five innings.
Defensive highlights for Berlin included a 3-6-1 double play turned by Konowski, Veronesi and pitcher Jonathan Platosz. Centerfielder R.J. Veneziano ignited another inning-ending double play by throwing out a runner attempting to score on a fly ball.
Konowski, Platosz and Russell each had two hits for the home team.
Berlin, which fell to 1-4 on season, is scheduled to play four games in the next week.Â
