Berlin Football Team Routs Rockville

Redcoats improve to 6-0 on the season.

Berlin High Redcoats football team remained undefeated by defeating Rockville 47-0 at Sage Park on Friday.

Rockville was unable to stop the Berlin starting offense, which scored on every possession in the first half en route to six touchdowns. Berlin’s JV offense took over late in the second half and played the entire second half.

Following a 40-yard run by Scott McLeod, Berlin opened the scoring with a touchdown run by Justin Gombotz. Kevin Main added three touchdown runs in nine carries. Gombotz also scored in the second quarter from 19 yards out, running his team-leading touchdown total to 12.

Quarterback Mitch Williams went 5-for-9 passing, for 104 yards, including one touchdown pass to Tyler Bouchard. Berlin’s ground game gained 172 yards, led by offensive linemen Hector Rodriguez, Dante Vasi, Anthony Duong, Chris Meucci and Mitch Blanchette.

Rockville, now 2-4 on the season, was unable to move the ball against Berlin’s starting defense. Bouchard and Michael Tirinzoni each contributed six tackles. Linebacker Paul Mariano contributed a blocked punt to the defensive effort.

Rockville’s only serious drive deep into Berlin territory in the third quarter was stopped by the Berlin JV defense, with Anthony Sisti recovering a fumble he caused.

Geoff Main scored a Berlin touchdown on an eight-yard run in the fourth period to close out the scoring.

Berlin, currently ranked #10 in the state, ran its record to 6-0. The Redcoats host Plainville Friday, October 26, at Sage Park.
