The Berlin Lady Redcoats golf team ran away with the CCC Tournament on Wednesday at Tunxis Plantation Golf Course by recording an outstanding team score of 323, defeating second place Farmington 349, by an incredible 26 strokes.
Fifteen teams and over seventy girls competed in the event.Â
All five Berlin golfers earned All Tournament Team honors by posting top ten scores. Â
Julia Kemmling led Berlin and all golfers earning Tournament Medalist honors by posting a wonderful round of 75. She received excellent support form her teammates; Ashley D'Attilio and Emily Deutsch, who finished third and fourth by carding scores of 81 and 82 respectively. Caroline D'Attilio and Abbie Underwood rounded out the top ten, both turning in fine performances of 85.Â
This marks the third straight year that Berlin has captured the Conference Tournament title. The Lady Redcoats have one remaining test, the State Tournament at Orange Hills Country Club next Tuesday. Â
"Well, I've been waiting for this day all season, a day when all of the girls came to play," Berlin coach Jim Barnes said. "Man did they come to play today. I couldn't be more proud. The 323 score is just an awesome team score. We walked out of there with everything; the team trophy, every girl with an all- tournamnet team medal and Julia with the individual medalist trophy. The girls took everything but the silverware.
"We've been hurting since May 6 when Farmington defeated us by one stroke at Tunxis. It was our only loss of the season and eventually cost us the CCC West regular season title. Returning to Tunxis today and winning the CCC Tournamnet so convincingly was very special. I hope the girls learned how good they really are today. If the did, next Tuesday could also be very special."
