Despite recording only three hits, Berlin High scratched out a 2-1 victory Wednesday over Middletown High.
Playing its third consecutive road game, the Redcoats built the margin of victory in the top of the seventh. Jeff Sylvester led off the inning with a walk. Dan Wrona got the first out, but then was bailed out by his defense when LF Greg Konowski chased down a hit, relayed to Mitch Williams, whose throw to catcher Jordan Zima nailed the tying run at the plate.

Girl's Golf
Berlin 189, Middletown 291
The Berlin Lady Redcoats golf team opened its 2013 season with a victory over visiting Middletown, 182 to 291, Wednesday at Timberlin Golf Course.
Berlin was led by it's two stellar sophomores, Julia Kemmling and Ashley D'Attilio, with rounds of 41 ands 42 respectively.
Senior Emily Deutsch, 47, and sophomore Emma Atkinson, 52, rounded out the scoring for the Redcoats. Kemmling's 41 was good for medalist honors. Going back to last year results, this marks the fourteenth time in seventeen matches that she has claimed the top spot.
"It's good to get our first match behind us," Berlin coach Jim Barnes said. "Not a bad team score but I know we can do a lot better. I was really proud of Emma Atkinson, who was playing in her first varsity match. She shows some real promise and could be a real boost for our team this year."
Berlin is in action next against Manchester at Timberlin on April 17.
