Softball team loses a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to unbeaten Masuk in semifinals. Rombola beaten at State Open Tennis.

What has been a surprising and impressive season, the Berlin Redcoats softball team almost pulls another surprise in the CIAC Class L state tournament Tuesday night in West Haven.
Berlin took on Masuk, who was unbeaten and unscored upon this season.
The Redcoats scored first on a Makayla Harris RBI triple. It was not only the first run of the game but the first run Masuk had given up all year.
With Berlin holding a 1-0 lead Masuk tied the game in the fourth inning on and RBI double. With two outs, Berlin had a misplay in the infield, which allowed Masuk to take a 2-1 lead.
Harris led off the fifth inning with a double but was stranded and Berlin never threatened to score again.Â
With a roster featuring just two seniors, Berlin ended the season 20-4 and advanced to the semifinals for the first time in 20 years.Â

Berlin junior Dan Rombola's season has finally ended at the State Open with a loss to Jack Meyer of Fairfield Ludlowe 6-2, 6-4.
It was a season that reflected all of his hard work since last June. He finished the season with a 17-4 record nd a runner-up finish in the Class M state tournament.Â
