In October, the BHS school community awarded two seniors, Abigail Ferland and John McGeever, the Good Citizen Award given by the Sarah Whitman Hooker Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
To earn this award, students are nominated by teachers based on their leadership, dependability, service, and patriotism. The Class of 2021 then votes and a female winner and a male winner are chosen to represent the class.

The Good Citizen winners were then tasked with writing an essay, timed and proctored, responding to a prompt related to “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It.” The essay asked the students to respond to the question, “How do the combined actions of so many good citizens keep our nation moving forward?”
We are pleased to announce that John McGeever has been selected as the male essay winner for the State of Connecticut, and his winning essay will now be considered at the next level.
