BERLIN, CT — The Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS) Outstanding Arts Award annually recognizes two seniors in each member high school for their outstanding ability in the arts. The criteria for this honor include excellence in the performing or visual arts, scholarship, and leadership. Students are selected by the high school administration for this honor. Berlin High School is proud to announce that this year’s recipients are Clemens Henning representing excellence in performing arts and Kathryn Markey representing excellence in visual arts. Kathryn and Clemens will be recognized during a virtual event that will be broadcast via local television in the near future.

Clemens Henning is an extremely well-rounded young man with an outstanding work ethic. He is an integral part of the Berlin High School community where he is a member of the Redcoat Marching Band, earning the position of low brass section leader. Clemens has been selected for many audition ensembles including regional and all state festivals in Connecticut, and he was selected to participate in the 2019 National Association for Music Educators All-National Honors Ensemble, representing the top performing high school musicians in the United States. His talent has led him into the community to perform at public events for the Berlin Historical Society as well as membership in the Springfield Youth Orchestra and the Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble. Clemens has also been a stagehand for BHS musicals throughout his high school career. He is a Tech xPert, assisting peers with Chromebook issues, and is enrolled in a rigorous course load. Clemens plans to pursue a BS in physics followed by a masters in engineering.
