Berlin hosts Eighth Annual Lineman Challenge

Southington-I wins the event, which tests speed and strength of offensive and defensive linemen.

The Sixth Annual Lineman Challenge, the brainchild of Berlin football assistant coach Jon Paul Demko, was held Saturday behind Berlin High School. More than 25 schools participating with some bringing more than one team. 

The top four teams were Southington 1, Guilford, North Branford and North Haven 1.

Host Berlin finished eighth, winning three categories.

The challenge features categories which challenge the linemen in different areas from strength to quickness to speed to all of the above. Some of the events are: bench press, big tire push, tire throw, tug-o-war and more.

Other schools who entered: Pomperaug, Wethersfield, Cheshire, North Kingston, New Milford, Woodland, Masuk, Newtown, Wilcox Tech, Farmington, Hand, Canton, Ledyard, Bullard Havens, Danbury, Valley Regional, Morgan, New London, Bulkeley, St. Paul and Trinity Catholic.
