Berlin JV football won its fifth consecutive game, downing Plainville JV’s team 28-0 at Sage Park on Saturday morning.
Seeking to follow up the victories this week by Berlin’s varsity and freshmen squads over Plainville, the JV team’s early favorable field position was cancelled out by two fumbles in Plainville territory.
Berlin went ahead for good on a 15-yd touchdown run by Anthony Sisti. A block by Connor Morrin near the goal line paved the way. The drive was set up by an interception by Geoff Main. Alec Norton registered an earlier Berlin interception.Â
A second quarter Plainville possession was stopped on 4th down after pressure on the Plainville’s quarterback by safety Jake Eliades and Jonathan Platosz.
Following Dan McLeod’s 47-yard punt deep into Plainville territory, the Berlin defense held on downs to set up a 13-yard TD pass to Morrin from Norton, who delivered the pass despite a roughing penalty on Plainville. McLeod increased the Berlin to 14-0 by running in a two-point conversion.
Berlin cemented the victory on its opening drive of the second half. Jake Eliades swept around the left side for 47 yards. Several plays later he ran left for a short touchdown behind the blocking of Devin Reilly, Vinny DeDominicis, Morrin and McLeod. Two points were added on conversion pass to Nate Campbell from Norton.
Plainville drove in the fourth quarter to the Berlin 30-yd line, helped by a key 4th down pass to Kevin Bielawski. The Berlin defense then stiffened to preserve the shutout.
Eric Garcia’s 38–yd run in the fourth period pushed the Berlin lead to 28-0.
The JV team, 5-0 on the season, will next play at Sage Park, 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 3, against Platt High School.
