Berlin Lions Club Efforts Earn Recognition as State Names Bridge in Its Honor
The Route 9 bridge at Beckley Road has been renamed the "Berlin Lions Club Bridge."

For more than 70 years, the Berlin Lions Club has given back to the community and provided countless opportunities to youth, non-profit organizations and others throughout Berlin and the surrounding area. Now the state and town are giving back to the club.
The organization this week aimed to recognize the organization by honoring them with a bridge – one that will help provide residents a reminder of what the power of volunteerism can do, House Majority Leader Joe Aresimowicz said.
The club on Tuesday was honored as the bridge crossing Route 9 at Beckley Road was renamed the Berlin Lions Club Bridge.
“I want to thank Lenny Tubbs who suggested naming the bridge in recognition of all the good work that the Lions do—from helping children who need eyeglasses to sponsoring the Berlin Fair,” Aresimowicz said. “Endless groups around town depend on the Lions for support. The Berlin Lions help make Berlin a truly caring community.”
The club was honored during a special ceremony that included Aresimowicz, State Rep. Cathy Abercrombie and State Sen. Terry Gerratana, as well as Berlin Mayor Adam Salina.
The Lion’s Club of Berlin was founded in 1941 to create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world by taking an active interest in the civic, cultural, social, and moral welfare of the community.
The club sponsors many events, including the Berlin Fair, to raise money for worthy causes. Beneficiaries of the Lion’s Club of Berlin include American School for the Deaf, Lions Low Vision Center, Gaylord Hospital, Berlin Relay for Life and the Hospital for Special Care Foundation.
“Renaming the bridge is only fitting given the amount of good will and charitable donations the Lions make for the Town of Berlin,” said Mayor Salina.
