Berlin Man And Wife Start Healthy Choices Business On Main Street

Ron Asal needed to make some changes in his life. 

He found a weight management program and lost 40 pounds.

He was so excited about the change in is health that he started to sell the products and consult on weight management. Unlike many big box stores, his business, Family Wellness Center, sells products and conducts exercise classes and makes up nutrition plans.

"We have one product we sell and people are very familiar with it," said Asal, who opened his storefront in Berlin at 355 Main Street right next to Star Barber Shop. "We have a small admission price and with that they get a health assessment, a nutrition plan and three drinks. They are meal replacement drinks that come in great flavors. You get a lot for the $5 admission."

The business is open seven days a week from 8-5 but closed from 2-4 p.m. during the afternoon. 

"The focus of the business when my wife and I started it, we thought the sky is the limit," Asal said. "If you work hard and put in the effort you can be very successful. 

"But we focus on the people. We want to help people lose, maintain or gain weight. We can do all of that. You would be surprised how many people we get who can't gain weight or keep weight on. We can handle kids or adults. I am the perfect example. I lost 40 pounds and my blood pressure and blood sugar went down."
