Berlin Minor League Baseball Team Bounced From New Britain Tournament

But not before they claimed number one seed after pool play.

Patrick Morris did all he could to give Berlin a boost, but it wasn't enough to get past Forestville, as Berlin lost 11-5 in six innings at A.W. Stanley on Monday to end it’s great run in the Hardware City Minor League Tournament.

Morris had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He tripled in the fourth inning and doubled in the sixth inning.

Forestville went up for good in the second and got two-run rallies in the fourth inning and the fifth.

After pushing across one run in the bottom of the fourth, Berlin faced just a 4-1 deficit. Forestville piled on four more runs in the top of the sixth.  Four runs in the bottom of the sixth helped Berlin close its deficit to 11-5 but it wasn't enough.

An RBI double by Patrick and an RBI single by Tyler Rice triggered Berlin’s comeback. But, in the end, Berlin came up short as Forestville ended the game by retiring the side.

"We had a great tournament," Berlin coach Roger DelGiorno said. "We were able to secure the number one seed in the playoffs by compiling a 3-1 record and allowing the least amount of runs in the tournament. They are a great group of kids and you could see the kids improve and learn more as players as they continued to play as a team."

DelGiorno praised the pitching of Garrett Fallon, Trever Miano, Alex Canzellarini, James Ellis, Sal Dastoli, and Patrick Morris.

Leading the team in hits were Kyle Hyde, Trever Miano, Tyler Rice, Sal Dastoli, Sam D’Addabbo, and Kasey Ouellette.

Also making major contributions were:  Josh Braun, James Ellis, Marino Fanelli, Matt Kraus, and Braden Shea.
