Berlin Minutemen Wrestling Enjoys Strong Weekend

Several wrestlers finish in top few spots of their brackets.

 

On Sunday, January 20th three of the young Minutemen traveled to Oxford High School for a beginners Tournament. Each had three matches with the following results: Bantam - Zachary Skinner took first place with two pins and a technical fall. Intermediates - Rory Mayer took second place with two pins and a close loss and Jacob Wagner took 3rd with a tough third match loss.  "It was a good day on whole and the wrestlers showed improvement," said Coach Roger Moss
 
Seven of the older more experienced wrestlers traveled to the Somers Tournament on Sunday, January 20th. Intermediate Connor Gildeau took third, Novice Vinny DeFrancesco and Serge Duquette both took third, Novice Joshua and Daniel Veleas took first place while Middle Schoolers Tanner Parmelee and Dylan Daniels took fourth. Coaching the Minutemen were Mark Mangiafico and Fred Orde.
 
In a recent dual meet with Southington the Minutemen came up on the short end of the score losing 20-13. Winning two matches in the loss was Vinny DeFrancesco, while fellow teammate Braden Shea went 2-1 on the night.  Winning one match each were; Niko, Matthew and Daniel Koops, Eddy Lenz, Luke Maguder, Michael Lukaszewski, Rory Mayer and Zachary Skinner.

Also wrestling tough on the night were Camden Santiago, Marcus Kelly-Johnson and Zachary Fong.

The Minutemen will host the Knights of Coventry Wrestling team on Friday, January 25 at 6 p.m. in the Berlin High School Wrestling Room.  It is open to the public and free of charge.
