Berlin Obituary: Christopher Hans, 34

Condolences to his family and friends.

Christopher Richard Hans passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 24, 2018.

He was born in Hartford on November 4th, 1983 to Debby Caughman Hans and Rick Hans. Chris, an avid NY Giants fan, graduated from Berlin High School in 2002 and the University of Massachusetts, Stockbridge School in 2006. He loved playing golf and previously held the position as a golf course superintendent. Most recently, Chris was furthering his education in pursuit of a career opportunity in the medical field.

Chris’ memory will continuously be celebrated by his mother Debby Hans of East Haddam, his father Rick Hans and Rick's wife Tina Hans of Berlin. In addition, he is survived by his maternal grandfather, Bill Caughman of Rocky Hill, sister Rebecca (Hans) Barwikowski and husband, Capt. Alex Barwikowski, USAF, of Bossier City, LA, brother Scott Hans of Conshohocken, PA, nieces and nephew Adalynn, Olivia and Ethan Barwikowski, step-sister Amy Tenenbaum of Middletown, and his countless friends. Chris was predeceased by his maternal grandmother Geraldine (Garro) Caughman of Wethersfield and his paternal grandparents William and Alice (Braband) Hans of Liberty, NY.

Chris had a deep love for dogs and connected this love with his NFL idols, by naming his Brittany Spaniel Mara. Chris will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, May 29th from 4-8 pm at the Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Turnpike, Wethersfield. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 30th, 2pm. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Church, 371 Wolcott Hill Rd. Wethersfield, Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Chris’ name to instituteofliving.org to help those recovering from the effects of mental illness and addiction.
