Berlin Peck Library Hosting Many Events In January

Preschool & Family Day Care Fair highlights new year schedule.

 

Learn to play chess – Students in grades 2-12 are invited for a six-week series – January 8 through February 12.  Sign up now.

Early Dismissal Afternoon: Sand Art on Wednesday, January 9 at 1:30 p.m.  Children in grades 1-5 may register.
 
Playtime –  Friday 10-12  - Drop in – no registration. Weekly throughout the year. Opportunity for babies, toddlers and preschoolers to play and socialize together with parents in the large meeting room of the library. 
 
Preschool & Family Day Care Fair: An opportunity for parents to research the preschool programs available in Berlin in an informal setting.  Program directors and teachers will share information about the school philosophy, teacher/child ratio, fees, schedules, and program structure. Preschool centers include:  Creative Kids, Discovery Center, Kensington Nursery School, Little Blessings Nursery School, St. Paul’s School, and YMCA. Home day care providers will also have a table. Parents may drop in on Saturday, January 19 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
 
Winter Reading Club – Warm Up With A Good Book – January 14 – February 25 – children may sign up either on-line or pick up a reading log at the library.  Read one book and add your “mitten” to the bulletin board.  Every week add a sticker to your reading log.  Children may collect a prize from the treasure box between February 16-25.
 
Storytimes are a half-hour program featuring stories, fingerplays, songs, and a short movie. Each week an early literacy skill will be highlighted. There are 6 early literacy skills: print awareness, phonological awareness, letter knowledge, vocabulary, print motivation, and narrative skills. No registration is needed for these programs   
          Mondays 10:30 a.m. for toddlers ages 18 – 36 months       
          Tuesday 1:30 p.m. for preschoolers aged 3 - 6 years
          Wednesday 11:30 a.m. for babies from birth to 18 months
          Thursday 10:30 a.m. for all ages
Storytimes begin the week of January 14-17.

The Genealogy Group @ The Library is for people interested in learning about genealogy and family history. Genealogy is one of the most popular hobbies in America. The group is intended for both beginning and experienced genealogists. This month will feature colonial research with two news books. Genealogy group meets Thursday, January 10  at 7 p.m.

Meditation Workshop - January 12 at 11 a.m. Learn breathing techniques, micro exercises and yoga postures. Explore various mediation methods and participate in a guided deep relaxation session presented by Ashwini Belhe. Please bring a yoga mat or beach towel.
