Berlin Peck Library Is Ready For Summer Readers

Summer programming wil begin with kick-off carnival on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.

School ends in two days for the Berlin public school students but the summer programming is just starting and ramping up at Berlin Peck Memorial Library.

"The students can come in with their summer reading lists and we'll have the books for them to check out," said Mindy Morrison of the Berlin Peck Library. "The summer reading books are all marked with a yellow stripe on the binding so that children will know it is a summer book. If they can't find what they are looking for we can always help them out."

Morrison was asked how the Library handles the demand of the summer readers.

"I know we order extra copies for McGee Middle School because they have have certain books they have to read," Morrison said. "Most of the books the kids read are part of a series so they can read any of the books in that series."

Morrison said the schools work together with Children's Librarian Cathy Nelson to come up with a varied and solid list of books for the kids over the summer.

The summer reading is certainly part of the summer activities for the school children at the library but Morrison pointed out that there are almost literally a program every single day for the children.

"We have a very active schedule," said Morrison. You can go here to see the schedule. "It all starts with the Summer Reading Carnival Kickoff from 1 to 3 p.m. in front of the library, weather permitting. We will have games, face painting, balloon animals, meet the Rock-Cat mascot, a bounce house and more. This is a drop in program for all ages."

Morrison said there are programs for all ages.

We have a lot of story times and playtimes each week and the Construction Club, building with Legos are some of the more popular programs we run," Morrison said. "

Morrison added that signing up for summer reading can also be done online here.
