Berlin Police Officers Will Again Participate In Law Enforcement Torch Run
Portion of the run traveling through town will be June 7.
The 2013 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Connecticut will be held June 5 through 7. This is the 27th year Connecticut has participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run which started in 1986.Â
The run through Berlin will be held on June 7 and will cover approximately seven miles. Officers participating in the run will be soliciting sponsors for the run.Â
This year the following Officers will be participating in the Torch Run: Chief Paul Fitzgerald, Sergeant John McCormack, Lieutenant James Gosselin, Lieutenant Christopher Ciuci, Sergeant Todd Lentini, Officer Aimee Krzykowski, Officer Dave Cruickshank, Officer Brandon Lagueux, Officer Brian Dumais, Det. Shawn Solek, along with Berlin Police Dispatcher Scott Schreiner. In addition, State of Connecticut Department of Corrections Officer John McCormack will be participating in the Berlin leg.  Â
"Over 3,500 Law Enforcement Officers will carry the 'Flame of Hope' in Connecticut," Berlin Deputy Chief of Police John Klett said. "The Torch will be carried around 50 states and 40 nations in 2013. This year Special Olympic Athlete Kelly Johnson will participate in the Torch Run along with local Berlin Police Officers. These Officers represent over 85,000 officers from local, state and federal departments, agencies and correctional facilities from all over the world."
This year’s Torch Run will cover over 520 miles in Connecticut and will run through more than 100 cities and towns. This year’s goal is to raise $500,000 for Connecticut Special Olympics. Â
