Berlin Relay Team Finishes Second in the Class MM Meet

Voelpel also finishes second in the 400 meters.

The girls ran almost perfect in the Class MM meet in 4x800m Relay.

"Our goal was to get lower than the current MM record of 9:39 and they did exactly that," Berlin coach Steve Soucy said. "The girls ran 9:38.88. Unfortunately, they were paired up against Hillhouse who ran 9:34. I couldn't ask any more from the girls and they can say that in the history of class MM, they are the second fastest team ever.

"Each of the girls either matched or bettered their time and our handoffs were perfect. Each of the girls went on to finish with great performances in their individual events."

Catherine Voelpel, who will run at Maryland this fall and next spring, went on to finish second in the 400m in 59.32.

Kristen Madeia ran a personal best 2:21.70 in the 800 that was good enough for sixth place. Jody DiCicco ran a season best 2:32 in the 800 while Michelle Grieco toughed out a rugged 3,200m race finishing fourth and qualifying for the State Open in 11:54.

Sophomore Taylor Lupini finished seventh overall in the high jump clearing 4-8.

Berlin's 4x100m relay team finished with a season best time of 54.38. That relay was led by seniors Gina Lapila and Shannon Mahoney. Also running were Sam Carbonell and Marisa Silva.

The Redcoats' 4x400m relay team finished in 4:32 led by senior Stef Parillo, sophomore Sarah Hagan, freshman Nicole Flaherty and freshman Jody DiCicco.
