Berlin Town Council Cuts $200,000 From Budget and Then Passes It

Reduction will take a tenth of a mill off the mill rate.

At its Town Council meeting Tuesday night, the Council passed the 2013/2014 budget and set the mill rate. The original budget was voted down at referendum.

The referendum vote has just over 1,100 voters turn out. Despite the turnout of less than 9 percent of the voters in town, the Town Council went back and took out approximately $200,000 from the budget before passage.

That $200,000 reduction will take the mill rate down by another tenth of a mill.

The Town Council also adopted the 2013/2014 Water Budget in the amount of $1,587,523 and the Sewer Budget in the amount of $2,141,897.
