Breast Surgeon to Speak in New Britain

Free Seminar Focuses on Breast Cancer Survivorship

A presentation, titled “Surviving Breast Cancer: What you need to know,” will be given by Dr. Camelia Lawrence on June 6 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute at the Hospital of Central Connecticut at 183 North Mountain Road in New Britain. Dr. Camelia Lawrence, who most recently practiced at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, was appointed the director of breast cancer services at the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute at the Hospital of Central Connecticut late last month. Lawrence brings 13 years of experience in breast surgery to the position.

The center is considered a one-stop shop for patients after they are diagnosed with breast cancer. The facility is packed with surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, nurse navigators and counselors.

“The center will not only enhance our exceptional breast health services, but it will provide our patients with psychological, social, educational, and other support services from our team of local physicians, nurses and staff,” Lawrence said in a prepared statement.

Kristoffer Popovitch, the Central Region director of the Hartford Health Care Cancer Institute, said the center is proud to welcome Lawrence to its team.

“She joins a talented team of providers and support staff who are dedicated to providing attentive, personalized care and guidance throughout the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer on into survivorship and recovery,” Popovitch said in a prepared statement.
