Decision On School For Monday Should Come By Mid-Day Sunday

Town Manager Denis McNair said that a decision on whether there will be school on Monday will likely be made by mid-day on Sunday.

"I got picked up and took a ride around town and we went by McGee and the parking lot hadn't been touched yet," McNair said. "And it's not just the parking lots that have to be cleared by all the sidewalks and entrances and exits. It's a lot to do."

She said that Mayor Adam Salina talked to Superintendent David Erwin Saturday and they will all talk again on Sunday.

McNair said that she saw firsthand that most streets in town are just not passable.

"We're not as bad as some towns but were not good either," McNair said. "This snow was way more than anything we could take care of. The plows were going all day and all night but they have a long way to go. They are doing the best they can."

There were numerous calls to McNair saying that some streets didn't see any plows and they were upset.

"If a plow went through at something like 11 p.m. on Friday and never got back to that street it would certainly look like the plows had never touched that street," McNair said. "As always, we are worried if we can get to where we are needed for an emergency and the answer is we'll get there."

McNair said that there were a few carbon dioxide detector calls on Friday night because of blocked vents. She said there might have also been a medical transport out of Stonebridge 55 and over homes.

With the forecast calling for rain on Monday, McNair said additional problems may be on the horizon.

"I know it's a lot to ask but if the residents can find their storm drains and clear them, that would help alleviate some problems if it rains hard on Monday," McNair said. "We also have to worry about rain on the roofs because there is so much snow and that's heavy. The rain will make it heavier so that will be a concern. It is a concern for both houses and our schools."

McNair asked that residents please be patient and know the town is doing the best it can.
